What is Hosted Exchange and Why do I Need It?

What is hosted exchange?
Hosted exchange (also known as online exchange/exchange online) is generally offered as a service. This service allows an IT service provider, such as ourselves, to create a email mailbox on a server that includes additional space. We can then use that space to host and manage your email data. The space means that we can hold onto hundreds or thousands of archived emails for you, so you always have access to them. Having your emails on a server protects them and it also means that you'll always have online access to your emails (as we use multiple servers - so if one server were to go down for any reason we have a backup servers that are in place, so you still have access with little to no downtime).

How does hosted exchange work?
The way the exchange works, put simply, is that multiple servers in a secure data centre store users mailboxes (created by the service provider specifically for your business). Those servers are then constantly being updated with your latest email data, storing all of your emails in one place in the cloud. Your email inbox talks to the server, so as long as you have an internet connection you can always have access to any of your emails no matter where you are in the world. Everything here is based in the cloud, so there is nothing bulky or difficult to install and it's quick and easy to set up. We go one step further by providing a managed service, so this all happens in the background for you so that you can carry on being a great business.
