What is Hosted Exchange and Why do I Need It?

Have you ever heard of hosted exchange? It's okay if you haven't, because it's something that usually lies in the hands of your IT department, but your business could really benefit from using it. In this blog post we're looking at exactly what hosted exchange is, how it works, the benefits to businesses and where you can get your hands on one. It doesn't matter how big or small your business is, everyone should be considering this for their business. So, let's get to answering some commonly asked questions shall we?

What is hosted exchange?

Hosted exchange (also known as online exchange/exchange online) is generally offered as a service. This service allows an IT service provider, such as ourselves, to create a email mailbox on a server that includes additional space. We can then use that space to host and manage your email data. The space means that we can hold onto hundreds or thousands of archived emails for you, so you always have access to them. Having your emails on a server protects them and it also means that you'll always have online access to your emails (as we use multiple servers - so if one server were to go down for any reason we have a backup servers that are in place, so you still have access with little to no downtime).

How does hosted exchange work?

The way the exchange works, put simply, is that multiple servers in a secure data centre store users mailboxes (created by the service provider specifically for your business). Those servers are then constantly being updated with your latest email data, storing all of your emails in one place in the cloud. Your email inbox talks to the server, so as long as you have an internet connection you can always have access to any of your emails no matter where you are in the world. Everything here is based in the cloud, so there is nothing bulky or difficult to install and it's quick and easy to set up. We go one step further by providing a managed service, so this all happens in the background for you so that you can carry on being a great business. We also offer email security services, to protect you from spam and malware.

Why use hosted exchange for your business?

It doesn't matter if you want hosted exchange for a small business with 5 users or for a large corporation with 500 users, hosted exchange is helpful to all businesses that send multiple important emails throughout the day. There are many benefits to having one, one of them being that it's a secure way to hold onto older emails and store lots of email data. Another benefit is that, because it is in the cloud, you're able to use/access your emails anywhere at any time on whatever device you choose. If you're the type of business owner that's always on the go and in meetings, this can be really helpful to you. You also get the benefit of always being online, never will your email be down and out-for-the-count as we use multiple servers to ensure your emails are always online, accessible and secure. An added benefit, with us, is that you get a managed service; so all of this happens in the background - allowing you to get on with more important stuff.

Where can I get hosted exchange?

There are many hosted exchange providers around the UK, but our hosted exchange service is great value for money as it is a fully managed service. With most other hosted exchange servers, you get the setup but not the constant support and expertise needed to run it. With Xenace you get 24/7 support with our resident IT experts, they have 20+ years of IT experience and no question ever goes unanswered. We also offer a free IT health check for all new customers, to make sure that everything is running how it should before you invest in any of our services. We make bespoke packages to suit your business, so be sure to get in touch so we can discuss what we can do to help you.
